  • Top Gear - by Atari Boy

    Introduction:

This is the game that started the great Top Gear series by Kemco that has continued into the N64 era. This is one of the best racing games availlable for the Snes next to Top Gear 2. This game came out in 1992 at a time when the only racers available were F-Zero and SMK.

    Graphics [8/10]:

The grahics in this game are very good but not much detail and they repeat to often in one race and very often objects such as the arrow signs in the bends in a race are taller them your car so they don't look right if you look at it. The cars are very detailed and look like real cars but the car only has 3 or 4 positions so it never looks very different. but don't get me wrong, the graphics in this game are still very good!! One other problem is pop up, but you never notice it unless you waych someone else race. the frame rate is very good in this game.

    Music & Sound [10/10]:

The music is very good for a Snes and the music always seems perfect for the track you are on and is one of the few racing games you can say have good music. the sound effects are not as good but dont effect it the game that much and when you fire a nitro it sounds great.

    Game Play [10/10]:

The control in this game is great and you have four different cars to pick from. You can only change the transmission on your car, either automatic or manual. its very easy to get used to contolling your car and the game is great with 2 players with a split screen. but i have one problem with the split screen, its always there even in a one player game with the bottom half being the computer. There are 20 cars in a race and in higher skill levels you can have a hard time passing cars. The brakes in this game are almost worthless so i just let go of the gas a second on hard turns.

    Challenge & Replay [10/10]:

The challenge in this game was not that difficult but on higher evels it can get hard to rank 1st on certain races. You have 32 races in his game so you have a lot of variety. Even after haveing the game for a year i still play it often.

    Conclussion/Overall [9.5/10]:

This is a great buy at only 20 dollars at most stores and i highly recomend this game for any racing fan with a high replay value and a safe buy for anyone!!!
